Where the station is

Bukit Chagar station stands on the northern edge of JB’s city centre, near Jalan Tun Abdul Razak. The viaduct to Singapore runs out from here over the Strait of Johor, parallel to the Causeway. If you know JB, think of it as one block up from JB Sentral and City Square.

Getting from the station to the rest of JB

The closest landmarks are all walkable.

Destination Distance How
JB Sentral (KTM, ETS, buses, taxis) About 400 m Sheltered walkway
City Square Mall Next to JB Sentral Walk
Komtar JBCC About 350 m Walk
Jalan Tan Hiok Nee and the heritage quarter 10 to 15 minutes Walk
Arulmigu Sri Rajakaliamman Glass Temple About 1.4 km, 15 to 20 minutes Walk or Grab
KSL City Mall About 4.8 km Grab, 5 to 10 minutes

Distances come from YouTrip’s RTS guide. We will replace them with our own timed walks, with photos of each route, once the station’s public exits open.

From JB Sentral, KTM Intercity trains head up the peninsula, and the electric ETS service to Kuala Lumpur takes about four to four and a half hours. That makes Bukit Chagar a two-train hop from Singapore to KL.

How immigration works here

If you are heading to Singapore, you clear Malaysian exit and Singapore entry inside Bukit Chagar station, then board. You walk straight out at Woodlands North. The hall has 100 automated e-gates that take about seven seconds per person, 10 security lanes and 18 baggage scanners, with separate lanes for people carrying no luggage.

Arriving from Singapore, you have already cleared both countries at Woodlands North, so you leave Bukit Chagar like any other train station.

Living within walking distance

For a daily commuter, the walk from your lobby to the station gate matters more than anything else about the unit. A five-minute walk under cover in JB’s afternoon rain is a different life from a 15-minute walk along a main road.

The projects closest to Bukit Chagar, by published distance, are CTC SkyOne (about 300 m), Aethera Residence (about 400 m), Twin Tower Residence (about 850 m), and TriTower and Senyum Residences (about 900 m each). R&F Princess Cove and Quayside JBCC sit further out, at roughly 1.5 to 2 km. We compare them side by side, with prices, tenure and whether Singaporeans can buy, in condos near Bukit Chagar RTS.

Two checks before you shortlist any of them:

  • Walk the route yourself at 7.30am and 7pm. Published distances are often straight lines, not the path you will take.
  • Ask which tower and which side of the building your unit is on. In a three-tower project, the far tower can add several minutes each way.

Project Information Centre

Near the station there is an RTS Link Project Information Centre with interactive kiosks and virtual walkthroughs of the station, the e-gates and the immigration process. If you’re in JB for property viewings, it is a good half hour before you visit show flats.
