Where it is and how it connects

Woodlands North sits at the northern tip of Singapore, close to the Woodlands waterfront. The RTS station was built beside Woodlands North MRT, the first station (TE1) of the Thomson–East Coast Line, which opened in 2020. The first RTS train arrived here in February 2026.

The TEL is what makes this end of the line work for commuters. One train from Woodlands North runs south through Springleaf, Caldecott and Orchard, then into the city at Outram Park, Maxwell, Shenton Way and Marina Bay, and on to the east coast. If your office is near a TEL station, your whole commute from Bukit Chagar is two trains and one immigration check.

Immigration before you board

Going into JB, you clear Singapore exit and Malaysia entry together at Woodlands North, then board. At Bukit Chagar you walk out like any train station. Coming home the order reverses: you clear both at Bukit Chagar and walk out at Woodlands North.

Have your passport ready, as for any land crossing. Fares and payment methods were not announced as of October 2026. The indicated range is RM15.50 to RM21.70 (about S$5 to S$7) per trip; see the RTS Link guide for updates.

What it means for people living in JB

For someone living near Bukit Chagar, the trip into Singapore becomes predictable for the first time. The train takes five minutes whatever the traffic on the Causeway. The parts that vary are the immigration queue and your MRT ride onward from Woodlands North.

That is why we judge JB condos for commuters by two numbers: the walk from the lobby to Bukit Chagar, and the TEL ride from Woodlands North to the office. Our condo comparison covers the first. Our commute times table estimates the second for 19 Singapore destinations, and RTS fares works out the monthly cost.

Common questions

Is Woodlands North RTS the same station as Woodlands North MRT?

They are separate stations next to each other. Woodlands North MRT on the Thomson–East Coast Line has been open since 2020, and the RTS station was built beside it so passengers can transfer.

Do I clear Malaysian immigration in Singapore?

Yes. Malaysian officers work at Woodlands North, so you clear Singapore exit and Malaysia entry together before boarding. You walk out at Bukit Chagar without queuing again.

Which parts of Singapore are easiest to reach from Woodlands North?

Anywhere on the Thomson–East Coast Line is a single train ride: Springleaf, Caldecott, Orchard, Outram Park, Maxwell, Shenton Way, Marina Bay, Gardens by the Bay and the East Coast stations. Other lines need a change.
